Tutorial: Key settings to reduce eMMC wear in OPNsense and pfSense
In our latest YouTube video, we explore how to optimize OPNsense and pfSense settings to reduce wear on your eMMC storage.
eMMC storage is widely used in laptops, mobile devices, and mini PCs, including some Protectli Vaults. While eMMC offers affordability and low power consumption, it has limited write cycles, meaning excessive data writing can shorten its lifespan.
We’ll cover some essential steps such as:
Using OPNsense’s Nano image for reduced write cycles (where supported).
Disabling local logging or using RAM disks to minimize unnecessary writes.
Turning off periodic RRD backups in OPNsense.
Adjusting pfSense settings to store logs in RAM instead of eMMC.
